Spring Outside to #FindYourFit!

By: Sue Pasqual

The time has finally arrived; we’re talking SPRING! After the cold winter we endured, everyone wants to rush outside for some good ol’ vitamin as the first glimpse of sunlight peeks through the clouds! Why not take your workouts outdoors to #FindYourFit in the sunshine + add some variety?

Fitness and fresh air go great together! Plus the budding flowers and trees just starting to bloom are great for keeping you from constantly checking the clock.  Sometimes, you just need a break from the gym renew your excitement for exercise and de-stress while admiring nature’s beauty.

Oh, did I mention it is free?

To kick-off your spring workout, try one of these 3 outdoor workout tips:

1.) Find a Local Hiking Trail

Whether you live near the beaches, plains, or mountains, nearly everywhere has some type of trail system nearby! These usually have wonderful paths that take you on routes so scenic that you won’t even realize you’ve targeted key muscle groups hiking a mile uphill. If you have a 4-legged friend, bring them too!  Many hiking paths allow leashed animals.  After all, they need their exercise too!

2.) Run the Bleachers

Go to a local high school or public field and, instead of reminiscing over the times you were cheering from the bleachers, try running them up and down! This will surely shoot your heart rate up and help improve your cardiovascular system.  Once you get a few rounds in, time yourself so you can show up next time ready to set a new personal best!

3.) Use Weekends to Fit In Fitness.

Certainly, spring weekends fill up quickly with yard work and family get-togethers, but planning your fitness routine (and sticking to it!) helps when you have a buddy to exercise with.  Ask a friend to meet you at the local park for a brisk 8 a.m. walk outside one weekend morning!  You’re less likely to skip it if you’re meeting someone and you’ll be done before most people even get out of bed!
