Omega-3: Heart Health & Beyond

Heart Health is something that we should always prioritize regardless of our age, gender, genetic predisposition, lifestyle choices and environmental exposure.  We all know the importance of healthy eating and keeping active while we prioritize our sleep and managing our stress.  However, many people don’t realize how important omega-3 fats are essential for our health beyond heart health.  Some of the benefits of omega-3 include but not limited to: helps support normal cholesterol level, helps support healthy level of C-reactive protein (inflammatory marker), supports joint health, supports healthy lubrication of the eyes, helps enhance mood and more.

It is absolutely crucial if we want to maintain a healthy body, omega-3 plays a vital role. Most people who follow a standard Western diet are not eating nearly enough omega-3 fats. Omega-3 is known as essential fatty acids, as they’re needed for health. Our bodies don’t make omega-3, so we can only take it via food and supplement.

Let’s take a look at the rich sources of omega-3 found in our food like salmon, sardines, mackerel, herring and light tuna which is high in EPA and DHA.  You can still consume a smaller amount of omega-3 from plant-based sources such as chia seed, hemp seed, flax seed and walnuts (these are rich in ALA but only a very small percentage is converted to DHA).  ALA rich food should never be relied on as our sole source of omega-3.  For most people, we need to consume at least 2 servings of 3 oz fatty fish each week to get enough DHA and EPA omega-3s.  However, most people don’t eat enough to even meet the requirement consistently.  If you are worried about pollution and toxins in the ocean, consider taking a good quality omega-3 supplement to meet your needs.  When choosing omega-3 supplement, it is important to choose a product that source their fish with shorter life cycle making them an ideal source of fish oil because they are less prone to accumulating environmental toxins and that can be found in large, longer-lived fish. Heart Health Essential Omega III with Vitamin E is a superior product due to a number of factors:

  • Source of fish come from sardines and anchovies harvested off the coast of Peru and they go through an intense purification process to ensure quality and safety
  • Provides three grams of omega-3 that studies reveal is the most effective amount to promote overall cardiovascular health
  • Vitamin E is added to provide antioxidant protection of DHA and EPA

When it comes to protecting our heart and beyond, consider adding Heart Health Essential Omega III with Vitamin E to your daily regimen in addition to the comprehensive lifestyle plan found in our TLS program. Your heart will surely thank you for it.
