Caffeine Consumption and Your Body

There is little question that caffeine consumption is on the rise. For better or for worse we turn to our “quick fix” during times of stress and fatigue. We even turn to them during less concerning times, like meeting friends, “catching-up,” and being a part of the social community. While you may know, “what goes up must come down,” do you know how to support yourself when you feel like you hit bottom?

Let’s take coffee, which boasts the most avid fans, for example. People may think that drinking coffee creates a “crash.” But coffee isn’t the cause; it’s the mind-set that putting jet fuel in a Yugo is a solution for lack of sleep, poor diets and lack of professional/personal balance.
Some may even complain that coffee causes gastric complaints. But coffee is rich in antioxidants that are beneficial for the cardiovascular system and bowel transit. If you have gastric concerns or blood pressure complaints, look first to adding fiber, fermented foods or probiotics, and managing your stress and sleep habits.

There are few things in this world that are as black and white as good for you, or bad for you. At the end of the day, nothing in nature acts in exclusion. Your approach to health should be diverse and balanced!
