By: Melanie Nelson

In the 21st Century, so much of what we do and how we feel is influenced by our social media feed.  Whether it’s to focus your motivation or just get yourself in a better headspace, it’s best to get intentional online & take control of your social media feed!

Take Control of Your Social Media Feed

First, let’s get real and honest… you ready? Many people report feelings of inadequacy or depression from being on social media. Some complain that it is negative and has too much drama, but understand that is all in your control.

Always remember that everyone is posting the highlight reel of their life.

Most people are posting happy pictures of family times because gone are the days when we invited family over to look at photo albums of our trips Some people are using social media for marketing purposes so, of course, it’s all perfection on their feeds!

Understanding that social media is not the complete picture and not all of a person’s reality, but a snapshot of what it is good and happy in their lives may help! At the end of the day, what matters most is you, your life, health and relationships. No need to compare, it’s not healthy!

Remember, you are enough!

Did you know you can “control” what is in your social media feed?

Your social media feeds work on an algorithm, so let’s chat about how to make that algorithm work for you!

When you comment, like or click on something it will show you MORE of that type of content or more of that person in your feed. So, if you don’t like what you are seeing and it is not fueling your heart, mind, and soul, here’s what to do:

  1. Unfriend, block or unfollow negative people or content producers.
It doesn’t matter if you don’t like their message or the simple fact that their pictures make you feel worse, get rid of their presence on your feed! They won’t get a notification & they likely won’t even notice. If you’re nervous they will, you do have the option to “mute” them on Instagram & make sure they don’t show n your Facebook feed without needing to totally block them.
  2. Stop engaging with content that upsets you.
Don’t like, comment or engage with and it and it will begin to disappear from your feed.
