This was my second year attending Market America World Conference in Miami, and I am proud to say that I walked off the plane in Greensboro feeling MUCH better this year than I did last year. I attribute this drastic positive change to learning how to eat healthy while traveling.
Last year, I felt absolutely awful after a week of eating junk food. I realized that I NEVER wanted to feel so “blah” again. So this year, I followed a few small rules to give my body what it needed, leaving me feeling good, healthy and full of energy (a necessity for any Market America event):
Before leaving for Miami, I scoped out the address of a nearby grocery store. Within a few hours of arriving, I made my way to the grocery store for some must-haves: fresh fruits, baby carrots, non-fat Greek yogurt, steel-cut oats, unsweetened almond milk, and lots of water. This made eating a big breakfast – a necessity for me – much easier and gave me energy to power through the day. Not to mention, having healthy snack options available was a major plus.
I am a hungry girl. Needless to say, I can get a little grumpy when I don’t eat every few hours. To avoid being stuck in an airport forced to choose between fast food restaurants or no food at all, I planned my snacks in advance and packed them in my carry-on, especially loading up on Choice Protein Bars and TLS Whey Protein Shakes. Both are travel friendly and delicious! While you can’t bring water bottles through airport security, you are allowed to bring snacks, so load up! Your body will thank you later.
Market America World Conference is held in Miami’s America Airlines Arena – a great venue, but quite large and hard to navigate during lunch time (it’s busy!). When lunch rolls around, instead of jumping in line for the nearest food offering, I took a lap around the entire arena. Not only did it give me a short workout, but it allowed me to see each and every food option, and I found some hidden gems, including a Fruit & Protein Smoothie cart.
My last tip: is to splurge a little. You’re in a new place, and should allow yourself to try and enjoy new foods. You don’t have to over-do it; just shoot for one splurge per day. Want to try a restaurant’s delightful Key Lime Pie? Go for it – just be sure to make smart choices the rest of the day.
Remember: with TLS you can still travel, try new foods, and even splurge (in moderation). After all, it’s not a diet, it’s a lifestyle!
